This article reports on the complexities of data warehousing. Data warehousing is a great example of a technology that has succeeded in confusing a large number of IT professionals. Complexities of large-scale data warehousing and conflicts arising from the datamart activities of business units that need the information today and can't wait for IT departments to resolve conflicting objectives can indeed be significant. To help clients focus on the tasks at hand while addressing the high cost of a data warehousing solution, the author has developed a seven-step strategy.
