Resumen
This article concerns for some of the directions being taken in computing academe by practitioners in computer software practice. The author believes that there is a desperate need in the computing field for practitioners and academics to believe in each other and work together. But this thinking was termed as "Divisive" by some critics. The author feels that there is a communication gap between practice and academe. The author believes that the only way one can even attempt to overcome this communication chasm is for people on each side to express themselves openly and frankly. A truism in the field of psychotherapy claims opening old psychological wounds is the only workable preliminary step to healing them. According to the author this split was to bedevil the computer programming world for many years. The author recounts his involvement in software practices in the last two years. The author believes that the sum of what he has said in "Practical Programmer," to date, is more consistent with bridge-building than it is with divisiveness.
