The article discusses the overview of the Packet-Switched Streaming Service (PSS) and in detail the support for the adaptive streaming in PSS, with an example of Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) PSS-compliant adaptive streaming performed in a real client and server implementation. The 3GPP PSS is a standard for audio and video streaming and download framework for commercial content. The proposed 3GPP PSS-compliant adaptive streaming performed in a real client and server implementation is shown to be able to substantially improve the streaming quality under 2.5 G and 3G network channel scenarios. The standardization of the mobile streaming standard PSS is finalized in 3GPP. It is supported by all major mobile telecommunication equipment providers as well as streaming equipment providers.
