Resumen
This article focuses on Piper Jaffray Inc. and it's decision to move to Oracle database and end-user query and analysis products of Brio Corp. as of September 1998. The goal was to extend a powerful business intelligence system across the firm's entire operation, which would require a data warehouse, online analytical processing and end-user automation. The company was in need of a better end-user access to critical transactional, account and other information. The company was previously using complicated mainframe query tool that involved costly maintenance and eventually, decision was made in favour of Brio's end-user tools that provided an excellent interface with software Excel and Access, ability to run under operating systems AIX, Windows 95 and Windows NT, compatibility with Unix servers and consistent interface across all products. While according to the author, the post-migration technical and business value of Piper Jaffray's data warehouse remains to be seen, initial reports have been positive. Now, the firm also wants to implement Brio's web products to develop the most complete solutions for delivering business intelligence throughout the enterprise.
