Resumen
The article focuses on evolution of digital libraries with change in technology and also illustrate the variety of available and potential applications. Building digital libraries involves the integration of complex systems, including collections of documents with varied structure, media and content. It also requires hardware and software components interoperating across different data structures and processing algorithms. Challenges of integration and interoperation are faced in corporate, government and academic settings. Solutions involve building upon the experience of traditional communities of practice to cooperate and leverage information technology. Digital libraries propel the state of the art in information technology by requiring seamless integration of diverse approaches to collecting, organizing, storing, accessing and applying knowledge. Benefits of digital libraries will affect millions as education is revitalized through a dramatic worldwide increase in sharing of learning resources and access to information.

Resumen
In this article, the authors put together a collection of authors, who give a glimpse of Digital Libraries projects reflecting the needs of their countries. There are pieces analyzing the challenges of interoperability, dissecting the progress in multilingual systems and inspecting the latest results in interfacing and text-searching technologies. Digital libraries can be among most complex and advanced forms of information systems. Linking the world's diverse intellectual and cultural collections can lead to deeper understanding and wider cooperation. The general problem of linking different systems is called interoperability in the digital library community. Linking multiple systems in a useful way requires various levels of interoperability. Their intention here is to collect a set of brief descriptions of wide-ranging projects highlighting interoperability challenges at all levels. The range of possible solutions for the problem of interoperability is to adopt international standards, integrate all special types of information, provide multilingual support, supporting local and national needs and describe designs and techniques to build digital libraries meant for universal use.
