Voice-biometrics refers to the technology or process of speech processing where voice can be used to verify a personal identity, unobtrusively and invisibly. This technology forms the subject of discussion in the article. Voice-biometrics systems can be categorized as belonging in two industries, speech processing and biometric security. Like other speech-processing tools, voice biometrics extract information from the stream of speech to accomplish their work. They can be configured to operate on many of the same acoustic parameters as their closest speech-processing relative, speech recognition. Voice biometrics technologies do not know what a person is saying, relying on speech recognition to do that. Biometrics-based technologies are applied most often in security monitoring, and fraud prevention. Different types of voice biometrics exist, like speaker verification, speaker identification, etc. which deliver specific commercial applications.
