Resumen
In this article, the author discusses traditional libraries and their digital counterparts, which collaborate and unite to serve higher education. Loughborough University, England has a long history of digital library research projects including "BLEND," "Quartet, ELVYN," "Café Jus," funded by the British Library's Research and Development Division and "Hyperlib" funded by the European Union. Collaboration is the common ground shared by these projects. For example, Access to Course Readings over Networks involves the Pilkington Library at Loughborough; the academic departments of Information and Library Studies, Geography, and Human Sciences; the subscription agent Swets & Zeitlinger; and Leicester University library. Superjournal involves a consortium of publishers and several university libraries as test sites: Manchester University as the host computing facility and Loughborough University as the project evaluation team. Focused Investigation of Document Delivery Options involves other academic libraries as test sites. Collaboration is vital, and the successful digital library is a highly collaborative venture, in much the same way as the traditional paper-based library.
