Resumen
In this article, authors discuss on initiatives that center on scientific dissemination; development in digital library research in Brazil. The authors use three projects to illustrate recent progress on organising collections of environmental data. The oldest effort is conducted by the Tropical Foundation of Research and Technology. Its Tropical Database is an information center for data in biodiversity and biotechnology. Its services include providing interfaces to specific bio-related databases, coordinating links and integrating data from several research projects and maintaining logs on discussions of special interest groups. The goal of the Digital Agro-Library project, conducted by the Brazilian Research Center in Agriculture (EMBRAPA), is to provide uniform access to agriculture related data distributed across networked collections stored in the 46 EMBRAPA centers in Brazil. UNICAMP's GEOLIB Framework is a project whose aim is to develop a set of tools and methodologies to design and build digital libraries for environmental data. The main difficulties concern the heterogeneity among subjects, diversity of content, actual bulk and variety of scientific data concerned.
