The two that standout are both facets of harmonization, first of system and software lifecycle processes and their supporting standards; second of national and international standards. Through liaison with ISO/IET JTC1/SC7, people have taken great strides toward making IEEE and SC7 standards consistent and complementary, through both mutual adoptions and coordinated revisions. New standards are proposed by the practitioner community and by study groups formed within the Software and Systems Engineering Standards Committee. In both cases, before work begins, the S2ESC completes and the IEEE New Standards Committee then approves a Project Authorization Request that defines the standard's scope and purpose. Two current areas of community interest are systems and software assurance and agile development. A new study group is addressing the area of high-integrity systems and will recommend standardization approaches to safety, security, reliability, and dependability. Foremost is new IEEE Software Engineering Standards book series, in the early stages of publication. It contains volumes on software engineering, software project management planning, requirements, configuration management, quality assurance, reuse, and testing, among others
