Resumen
This article deals with the security and safety aspects of information systems, the tendency of people for breaching them and factors determining this behaviour. According to the authors, information systems are increasingly becoming an integral part of business today with their obvious benefits. But at the same time, opportunities for invasion of privacy, as well as theft of data, money and intellectual property are also abounding. As found in a study, men and women generally are very different in their assessment of what is ethical in this regard. Men are less likely to consider such type of behaviour as unethical. Moreover, their own judgment is most often influenced by their personal values and the legal authenticity of the act. Women are more conservative in their judgments and rely more on environmental cues, as well as their own personal values. Therefore, the authors further hold, besides technological preventive measures to curb cyber crime, different directive measures, policy statements and training sessions, which can have significant impact on the ethical perception of people, can also be used as a potential alternative.
