Resumen
An investigation shows that the Internet and multimedia technologies are reshaping the way knowledge is delivered and that e-learning is becoming a real alternative to traditional classroom learning. In order to address some existing problems and develop interactive and flexible e-learning systems, a concept called Virtual Mentor (VM) has been proposed. VM is a multimedia-based e-learning environment that enables well-structured, synchronized, and interactive multimedia instructions. It consists of the following principles: 1. multimedia-integration, 2. just-in-time knowledge acquisition, 3. interactivity, 4. self-directivity, 5. flexibility, and 6. intelligence. To assess the effectiveness of interactive learning in a virtual mentor environment, two experiments were conducted using the Interactive E-Classroom of the LBA system. As measured by the test scores, the e-learning groups using the Interactive E-Classroom of LBA significantly outperformed traditional classroom groups.
