Resumen
The global mesh of tightly woven, mechanical logic constrains human beings even more closely, a fact that no one noticed. From the way humans are ushered through metropolitan traffic by automated traffic light signals, to the way they transact their financial business at automatic teller machines, to the way humans compose and scroll through email messages keystroke by keystroke, in all such ways they accustom themselves to mechanized interactions. But humans need to ask themselves that how they are conditioned by machines with which they coexist so easily, and how they can counterbalance their one-sided relations to these devices. The hope is there that the next 50 years will produce the kind of wide-awake society that consciously masters its machines and insists on human exchange even through all mechanisms, whether traffic lights, teller machines, or the brave new devices of the coming decades.
