Resumen
The article explores as how Chief Information Officers (CIOs) deal with Web-based auction. Exploiting the Internet for commercial benefit has become a key theme for CIOs at most organizations. The matching of demand and supply at the best price at one specific point in time is the additional benefit of a Web-based auction. The advantages, however, must be considered against lower switching costs for auction participants. There are various types of Web-based auctions described in the article. In Web-based sales auctions, one seller offers to as many buyers as allowed into the auction. In Web-based procurement auctions, one buyer tenders his procurement needs via the Internet. In Web-based many-to-many auctions, many suppliers offer to many potential buyers. Current understanding of Web-based auctions is still limited. There is a significant theoretical base for traditional auctions, but the pervasive impact of advanced electronic communications is usually not addressed. Web-based auctions are a new way for an organization to interact with its market.
