This article reports on the situations when corporations investing in the data warehouses and business intelligence solutions don't derive the return on investment (ROI) they expect. In data warehousing, user-centric computing is not an option but a critical factor in generating the ROI available from an organization's data warehouse. The vice president of sales at a large multinational corporation had reported of saving more than $465 ,000 in one quarter after an initial query of sales data revealed excessive discounting in a particular territory. Data warehousing evangelists began to share success stories and awareness of the real benefits of business intelligence spread to finance, sales and marketing organizations. The fundamental data warehousing infrastructure has to be in place, and it has to be user-centric as well. The people implementing warehouses also need a good distribution strategy in the form of a delivery mechanism that makes the data in the warehouse available to end-user networks, desktops, browsers and more.
