Resumen
This article focuses on the significance of shaping up public policies to allow computing professionals better influence policy decisions and provide government officials the opportunity to tap into the computing expertise needed to create effective legislations. The public policies, according to the author, should provide a forum for both parties to come together and appreciate the vital role, each should play in the future of information technology. In Pam Samuelson's view, a law professor at the University of California, computing industry has been highly instrumental in steering legislative development over the past decade and it has pressured the legal community to focus on the appropriate issues and recognize the need for a sense of balance in various issues related to the computing community. The primary push, however, the author further maintains, will come from educating government officials, consumers and the next generation of users, to the power and implications of new technologies.
