Resumen
This article focuses on the privacy of the Internet user

This article focuses on the privacy of the Internet user. In the age of high technology and big buck marketing, the practice of tracking a surfer's interest is common. According to the U.S. Privacy Protection Study Commission, the perils of technology were dear even two decades ago. The real danger is the gradual erosion of individual liberties through the automation, integration and interconnection of many small, separate record-keeping systems, each of which alone may seem innocuous, even benevolent and wholly justifiable. Privacy Rights Clearinghouse, a non profit agency based in California, estimates some 400,000 thefts of identification. A person illegally using personal information of someone else occurs each year at a cost of some $2 billion. There are some solution which can be used to protect the privacy of the users. A person has to be careful while giving details on the Internet. Social security number should not be given without knowing who is receiving it and why they need it. When a person visits a site, the person should checkout some privacy enabling software if he don't want to be tracked.
