Resumen
The article focuses on challenges related to the use of information technology in health care services

The article focuses on challenges related to the use of information technology in health care services. Some of the reasons of little or non-application of information technology in health sector is health is the complexity of medical data, data entry problems, security and confidentiality concerns, the absence in many countries of a unique national patient identifier and a general lack of awareness of the benefits of information technology. The pressure on the health care business to change is mounting. Efficiency and cost-effectiveness are two major driving forces behind this need to change with managed care in the U.S. The present inability to share information across systems and between care organizations automatically, that represents one of the major impediments to progress toward shared care and cost containment. There is need to take a more business process view of health care delivery and to identify the appropriate organizational and information infrastructures to support these processes.
