Resumen
The article presents a study of the implementation of Web information system (WIS) at Federal Express Corp. Federal Express invented the express package industry in 1973, it charted unexplored territory with every innovation it introduced. WISs characterize the information technology direction at Federal Express, both for internal activities through intranets and for interaction with customers through extranets. As each new system is implemented, the seam between company locations and customer sites becomes less visible. Each new product, and every related information technology application under development, is based on TCP/IP. The intranet computing model is attractive because of capabilities it provides for developing sophisticated WISs. Internal benefits are growing, including online multimedia training offered over the intranet that is made available to any company location. The intranet computing model offers a solid foundation for building extranets. This is particularly valuable since electronic commerce and supply chain logistics will play an ever-increasing role in future Federal Express products
